Race days – Not Just For Adults!

9th Dec 2014

With the cold snap taking over all of us, taking the kids out for a day out seems like the last thing on our minds, while indoor treats like Santa’s Grotto seem far more appealing.

However, 2015 is set to bring us a whole lot of fun family days out – with some alternative excursions that might not have even crossed our minds as parents. For example, with bookmakers like Coral making a huge deal of the upcoming Cheltenham Festival, have you considered a day out to the races with the children?

It doesn’t always have to be about betting and have a few too many cheeky champers – there are plenty of race days around Britain which are great for kids too. For some tips on the best places to go in 2015, check out these family-friendly race days.

Easter Family Festival – Plumpton Racecourse

plumpton

Down in East Sussex, Plumpton Racecourse is one of the smaller race venues but still manages to pack a punch. Its pokey setting is perfect for family events, and as such it’s hosting its own Easter Fun Days on Sunday 5th and Monday 6th April. With a traditional funfair, Easter Egg giveaways and face painting, it’s the perfect day out for kids, and the best part is, under 18s get to visit for free!

Summer Day Meeting – Perth Racecourse

Scotland’s iconic racecourse will be holding a family-friendly Summer Day Meeting on Thursday 2nd July. The day will feature a variety of kids’ entertainment as part of a huge catalogue of racing over the course of the summer, which will also feature carnival parties, culminating in the final race day in September.

MBNA Family Fun Day – Chester Racecourse

chester races

Up north in the historic city of Chester, the racecourse is holding its own family fun day as sponsored by MBNA on Sunday 2nd August. The day will make the most of the classic British summer with barbecues, picnic areas and a huge array of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.

The Press Family Race Day – York Racecourse

York’s family-friendly September meeting will include seven thoroughbred races for the adults, while the little ones can sit back and enjoy the Charles Own Pony race at the beginning of the day. Taking place on Sunday 6th September, the day will feature an interactive racing zone, bouncy castles and even special appearances from the kiddies’ favourite – Peppa Pig.
